Kobe Bryant announced he is retiring after this season of basketball. The player posted a statement on “The Players Tribune” that said, “This season is all I have left to give.” It is his 20th season with the Lakers, and it’s not a good one. Bryant is down to averaging under 16 points a game, and the Lakers are 2-13 and in last place in the Western Conference. Bryant posted a poem, an ode to the game, in making his statement. In part, it read, Dear Basketball, From the moment I started rolling my dad's tube socks And shooting imaginary Game-winning shots In the Great Western Forum I knew one thing was real: I fell in love with you. A love so deep I gave you my all – From my mind & body To my spirit & soul As a six-year-old boy Deeply in love with you I never saw the end of the tunnel. I only saw myself Running out of one. And so I ran. I ran up and down every court After every loose ball for you. You asked for my hustle I gave you my heart Because it came with so much more. British singer Adele has sold 3.38 million albums of “25,” a record-breaking number of copies in her first week of U.S. sales, as noted by Nielsen Music data. The album, released November 20th, is the first album to sell more than three million copies in a week. The album has sold more copies than any other release in 2015, including Taylor Swift’s nearly two million sales of “1989.” In her home country, “25” sold more than 800-thousand copies in its first week of release in the U.K. That is more copies than the next 86 albums on the charts combined. Adele will tour next year, her first jaunt since 2011. On her website, Adele says of the new CD, “My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record. I’m making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did. But I haven’t got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to … Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties … 25 is about getting to know who I’ve become without realizing. And I’m sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened.” Singer Sinead O’Connor posted a suicide note on her Facebook page Sunday, according to “People” magazine. The note simply said, “I have taken an overdose.” It went on to say, "There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I'm at a hotel, somewhere in Ireland, under another name If I wasn't posting this, my kids and family wouldn't even find out. Was dead for another fortnight since none of them bother their hole with me for a minute. I could have been dead here for weeks already and they'd never have known." The 48-year-old singer has been going through a custody battle with two of her ex-husbands over their children. She has also had health problems. Earlier, on Friday, O’Connor write another post on Facebook, saying she was “desperately in need of a job and a place to live,” adding, “I am being treated to badly by my family that I can barely stay alive.” There are apps for everything it seems, but the new startup app Purple has a new angle for you – it can fill your gas tank. Not literally of course, but it can call someone to come to your location to bring you gas. The app promises that within three hours they will arrive ready to put 10-15 gallons of gas in your car for the same charge that you would pay at your neighborhood service station. Right now the service is only available in Los Angeles and San Diego, but it will hopefully spread to other areas soon. The company isn’t at this point charging a delivery fee, but there is a $1 fee for rush service during the very busy hours. Canadian brothers Michael and Neil Fletcher were on a hunting trip when they found a bald eagle caught in a trap. The two set it free, but not before taking a selfie of themselves and the eagle. The two were in the right place at the right time, hunting grouse with their Golden Retriever. They saw the eagle, then noticed it had a talon caught in the trap. Although the bird was very scared, it allowed them to place a hoodie over it while they worked to free the talon. The two agree that rescuing and then getting to hold a bald eagle, even for a few minutes, was very amazing. Five years into her marriage to Mike Fisher, Carrie Underwood says the honeymoon is over. She says now that they have a kid, their marriage is stronger than ever, but just a bit different. She tells E!, "That went out the door with the poopy diapers. I think that's when the honeymoon phase, if it hasn't ended already, that's when it officially ends -- when you have a child. We're still very much in love, a very deep love, but it's just different. It morphs a bit." Carrie will take the poopy diapers on the road with her Storyteller tour, which kicks off on January 30th in Jacksonville, Florida. Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town will be part of an all-star tribute to Gregg Allman. Blues legend Taj Mahal will also perform on the show, which will stream live on Skyville.com on December 11th. Skyville is filmed live in front of a studio audience in Nashville. Jake Owen will be working on Thanksgiving. He will be in New York to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which will also feature the premiere of Jennifer Nettles’ new single, “Sugar.” Over the weekend, Jake shared some cute selfies with his daughter Pearl, who turned three on Sunday. He posted, “Happy third birthday to my best buddy in the whole world... Pearl!” A Florida man will have to face the music for not showing his face, after walking into a Walgreen's wearing a mask -- and walking out empty-handed. Deputies were dispatched to the 24-hour store after Kyle Seaman was spotted lurking outside in the wee hours of the morning. Seaman had a black ski mask pulled back on his head, and he pulled it down before entering the establishment and walking around for a few minutes -- then left without saying a word. A delivery driver called 911 to report the suspicious activity, and when cops arrived, Seaman asked, “Why does everyone think I’m going [to] rob the place wearing the mask?" He didn't get an answer to that query, but he was charged with wearing a mask or hood on public property, a misdemeanor in Florida. A Georgia man's attempted beer run went very wrong -- when he ended up running himself over while trying to steal a truck-full of brewskis. Gregory Miller hopped into a Coors Light truck that was idling at a gas station and hit the road, but tapped out on his first pit stop. Miller pulled over at a Bojangles chicken restaurant to have a snack, but forgot to put the vehicle in park and ended up running over his leg, giving himself an ankle injury severe enough to require a trip to the emergency room. When the 55-year-old is released from the hospital, he'll face charges of vehicle theft and eluding police. A South Carolina man ended up with a fat lip after he got smacked down for telling a stripper she had a fat butt -- even though she weighed in at 115 pounds! Kyle Youmans told cops that he was sitting in the audience at a gentleman's club when one of the dancers began "annoying" him by trying to strike up a conversation, so he suggested she go to the gym to "get rid of her muffin top." The young lady, whose name was not released, didn't take kindly to the advice and struck him in the face, at which point bouncers tossed Youmans from the joint. Youmans admitted that he was "an 11 on a scale of one to ten" in terms of intoxication, but still insisted on filing a report with police. John Stamos won't be heading to jail for DUI. He copped a plea Tuesday and has received three years' probation. He was also ordered to complete 52 AA meetings in the next year and attend two hours of drug and alcohol counseling. Stamos was arrested in June after Beverly Hills police pulled him over for “behaving strangely and driving erratically.” He was reportedly under the influence of GHB and another non-narcotic drug, and spent 30 days in rehab over the summer. Here's a celebrity business story of a sort we've seen many times before: According to TMZ, Larry the Cable Guy has filed a trademark infringement suit against a filling station in Diamondhead, Mississippi, that calls itself Giterdone. He claims the gas station is confusing customers and taking advantage of his fame by putting the name on merchandise, which is -- of course -- something that he does as well. The comic and actor is seeking all the profits from the stores tsotchkes sales as well as the destruction of its remaining stock. Along with the new tat, she wrote, “The deep, meaningful, larger than life meaning behind this beautiful piece of ink, is… It covered the last one.” She thanked the tattoo artist, writing, “Thank you @nero_sct @studiocitytattoo for helping me right my wrongs. Kaley and Ryan announced they were divorcing in September. Kim Kardashian is dead set against having a C-section. Though baby number-two is breech, the reality star plans to have a natural birth. In a blog post, she wrote, "His head is still up and it's supposed to be down. He was supposed to turn by 32 weeks. So now, I will have to get a C-section. Or so I thought!" Kim says she "learned that you actually can deliver a breech baby" and found "one of the few doctors that still does this." In fact, Paul Crane was her mother's doctor and delivered Kim herself. In order to avoid the C-section, Kim has been trying to turn the baby around through "intensive chiropractic work," burning the herb mugwort on her pinky toe and "even attempting hypnosis." Kim's due date for the baby boy is around Christmas. Johnny Manziel has been replaced by Josh McCown as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. One week after being named the team’s starter, Manziel has been demoted to third-string quarterback for Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens after social media posts surfaced this week showing Manziel allegedly partying last weekend in Texas during the team’s bye week. Head coach Mike Petine said he, offensive coordinator John DeFilippo and quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell had spoken with Manziel before the bye to make clear they expected he would handle himself “the right way.” TOP 10 GADGETS FOR 2015 In today’s world, someone is always eager to tell you the top 10 or 20 of just about anything. “Time” just released what they consider to be the Top 10 Gadgets for 2015. How many do you own? 10. The Light L16 camera starts us off. This futuristic looking camera is really 16 different cameras in one. Yes, 16. For each image the L16 uses up to 10 of its lenses at once, the blends the photos into a high quality amalgamation. The person holding the camera does have some discretion, as they can adjust the depth of field of their image after it was taken. (light.co) 9. Samsung 16TB SSD is a new hard drive which is among the largest SSD ever made. The drive can hold up to 16 terabytes of data. (Samsung) 8. LittleBits Gizmos & Gadgets kit helps teach kids with hands-on tech time. It’s a pack of color-coded circuits, control boards and wiring that helps kids learn how their video game consoles and smartphones actually work. There are probably some adults who could use this one too. {Little Bits Electronics) 7. The Garmin Varia is a nice addition. While the Garmin’s you know are for your auto, this one is for your bike. It helps the rider know when a car is approaching from behind and will hopefully help prevent auto/bike accidents. (Gamin) 6. The DJI Inspire. This drone is a little more expensive than DJI’s popular Phantom series drone, which you’ve probably seen at local parks. While it does look like a spaceship, it would be a fun version for your first jump into the world of drones. (DJI) 5. OnePlus, a cell phone with great specs at a low entry level fee of $329 with no contract. The problem, if you can call it that, is you have to be invited to buy one. Great publicity ploy to get people talking about it. (One Plus) 4. It wasn’t long before New Horizons was beaming back data about the former planet, including very high resolution imagery of it. (NASA) 3. The Google self-driving car has long been talked about and while it’s a workable machine, Google doesn’t plan to put it on the road any time soon. The self-driving car has a Beetle-esque exterior with no (gasp) steering wheel. (Google) Self-balancing scooters come in at the number two mark, and you’ve probably already seen them somewhere. After all, Justin Bieber and Wiz Khalifa have been seen on them so now everyone wants one. Would be great if they were available for Christmas, but a copyright dispute might keep them off the shelves. (10 Hawk) The Microsoft HoloLens, which is number one, brings us Mixed Reality. When wearing the HoloLens, holographic images will suddenly appear around you. The headset has the potential use for professionals like surgeons and space astronauts. (Microsoft) Ahmed Mohamed was suspended from his school in Irving, Texas for taking a clock that he made to school. Lawyers for the 14-year old are now asking 10 million dollars from the city of Irving and five million from the Irving Independent School District. They are also seeking an apology from those involved. After word got out of the incident, the 14-year old received threats, including emails, that made him fear for his life. The arrest caused a variety of emotions from people, including outrage and sympathy as well as the threats. They say all this has caused severe psychological trauma. Mohamed says he thinks it is very sad that his teacher thought the homemade clock was a threat. On a positive side, Mohamed was invited to the White House to meet President Obama. He also met Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in the Sudanese capitol, Khartoum. He also got to meet Google co-founder Sergey Brin and officials form Turkey, Sudan and Jordan. Mohamed and his family have since moved to Qatar to complete his education. Gwen unveiled "Used to Love You," an emotional kiss-off to ex-hubby Gavin Rossdale, on the ABC telecast, and a source close to her says the subject matter may have kept Blake at a distance. The spy tells Hollywood Life, “Blake wanted Gwen to have her moment -- have her song be sung without the AMAs cameras checking for his reaction every two seconds... And she was very appreciative that he chose to do that -- Gwen respects him even more after he showed that he isn’t selfish and just looking for his own screen time.” In a new Billboard interview, Hunter Hayes shared five facts people might not know. 1. When I record a song, I feel successful if I’ve accomplished something new.” The album's first single, "Take Me Down," features Little Big Town. Cam also makes a guest appearance on the record. Willie Nelson has come clean about the reason he needed to cancel tour dates in October. He tells the Washington Post that he had stem cell surgery to help his lungs. "Over the years I’ve smoked a lot of cigarettes, and I’ve had emphysema and pneumonia four or five times, so my lungs were really screwed up, and I had heard that this stem-cell operation would be good for them." It's not known if this monkey's owner will be fined. U.S. Customs and Border agents at Los Angeles International Airport seized and destroyed 450 wrapped tamales that a passenger attempted to smuggle into the country from Mexico. The problem isn't so much that the man was traveling with so many tamales -- though it is odd, for sure. But the U.S. prohibits the transportation of pork products across international borders to prevent the spread of disease. The passenger initially was up front with customs agents about traveling with food, but told them he wasn't carrying pork. The food was taken away and he was slapped with a $1000 fine. A Florida woman says she was simply doing some shopping at a Walmart earlier this week when a man ran up from behind and attacked her with a pillow. According to the police report, the 18-year-old attacker says he does it as a way to meet people. |
