City officials have announced the date of the opening ceremony and first concert at Nashville’s new Riverfront park and outdoor concert venue, along with a corporate naming partner.
Music City’s new “Ascend Amphitheater” has been schedule to open on Thursday, July 30 with seven-time Grammy nominee, country music star Eric Church.
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean made the announcement during a press conference at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center just a few blocks from the amphitheater.
"Nashville needs an outdoor music venue and this is the answer to it," Dean said. "It's a wonderful iconic park and the amphitheater is a great symbol of our city."
A free public open house has been scheduled for Sunday, August 2.
It was previously announced that concert promoter Live Nation would manage the facility. Company officials said the first 20 concerts have been scheduled, with another half dozen in the works.

Luke Bryan is devastated over the death of five nursing students who were killed in a crash Wednesday near Savannah, Georgia.
The students attended his alma mater, Georgia Southern University. He tweeted, "Praying for everyone at Georgia Southern and the families who lost loved ones. So unbelievable and my heart goes out."
