Randy Rogers: Opens Up About The Death Of His Daughter
Randy Rogers has explained what caused the death of his six-day-old daughter, Rumer Rain.
He tells People that Rumer wouldn't open her eyes or eat after she was born. At first doctors assured them that some babies think they are still in the womb before they open their eyes and exhibit signs of hunger. But after a few days, they knew something was wrong. Rumer was diagnosed with non-ketotic hyperglycinemia -- an extremely rare genetic disorder. Both Randy and his wife Chelsea carry the recessive gene for the condition. They'll still be able to have children through in-vitro fertilization and genetic testing.
Randy is working with Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas to raise money for nesting suites for families of babies being cared for in neonatal intensive care units. He says, "This is something every hospital in the country should have, an amazing system of support set up for parents caring for a sick child, and it's something Chelsea and I have become very passionate about."
