A Florida man thought he was pretty clever when he ripped off a 7-Eleven store, but his silly stunt has landed him behind bars.
Police say they received a 911 call from Gregory Zopff, who claimed that 7-Eleven refused to give him the items he bought.
When a deputy arrived at the store, the manager explained the situation. He said Zopff brought a bottle of soda and a package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups up to the counter and informed the cashier that the sheriff told him he didn't have to pay for it. So he grabbed his items and left. Another employee then ran outside to catch him and took back the stolen items. Officers caught him a short while later hanging out in a Winn-Dixie parking lot and charged him with retail theft.
