Jim Carrey's ex-girlfriend Cathriona White has committed suicide.
TMZ reports the 28-year-old was found by friends at a residence in Los Angeles Monday night. According to the gossip site, police believe White died of a drug overdose. White's suicide came days after she and Carrey, 53, split on Sept. 24, TMZ claims, citing a suicide note reportedly found.
A few hours after news of White's suicide broke Tuesday, Carrey released a statement to ABC News. "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."
The same day, White tweeted a cryptic message: "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest. <3 to you all." She also posted a quote by W.B. Yeats on Instagram that day. It read: "Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame."
White and Carrey began dating off-and-on in 2012.

Nashville star Hayden Panettiere discovered that she had more in common with her character, Juliette Barnes, after giving birth to daughter Kaya Klitschko last December. Like her character on the ABC drama, Panettiere suffered from postpartum depression.
"It's something I can very much relate to," Panettiere revealed during an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael Monday. "It's something a lot of women experience. When [you are told] about postpartum depression you think it's 'I feel negative feelings towards my child; I want to injure or hurt my child.' I've never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don't realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It's something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they're not alone, and that it does heal."
Panettiere said the shame and misunderstanding surrounding the condition keeps many women silent.
"There's a lot of people out there that think that it's not real, that it's not true, that it's something that's made up in their minds, that 'Oh, it's hormones.' They brush it off," the actress said. "It's something that's completely uncontrollable. It's really painful and it's really scary and women need a lot of support."
She added, "Women are amazing. We do something that no man can do on this planet. I mean, we grow a human being in our body!"
It's also something that Panettiere's fiancé, heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, wishes he could do. "If Wlad figured out a way to get pregnant and he could have the baby, we would be going right now, no problem," revealed Panettiere, adding that she'd like to have four children.
"When I was pregnant, he did this thing where he would suck in his stomach and then I would put my stomach to his so that he could feel when she was moving -- almost like she was in his stomach," Panettiere said. "He wanted to feel what it was like to have a baby as close to him as it was to me."

The teenage daughter of Paul Walker has sued Porsche for wrongful death in connection with the November 2013 crash that claimed the life of the late Fast & Furious star.
The lawsuit from 16-year-old Meadow Walker claims the Porsche Carrera GT in which Walker was riding, and which was driven by the actor's friend Roger Rodas, had design defects.
The car spun out of control and struck trees, bursting into flames on a Santa Clarita, California, street.
The lawsuit claims the Porsche lacked a stability control system and proper reinforcements in its doors.
The suit further alleges that the Porsche was traveling 63 to 71 miles per hour when it spun out of control.
An investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol had concluded that unsafe speed caused the crash.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
A separate wrongful death lawsuit filed by Rodas' widow is still pending.
Walker's death occurred while Furious 7 was still in production. His brothers stepped in to complete his remaining scenes. The movie was released earlier this year and made 1.5 billion dollars worldwide.

The Fast & Furious series is coming to an end...after three more sequels.
Vin Diesel, a star and producer of the franchise, wrote in a recent Facebook post that he plans to wrap up the series with a trilogy.
"To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet... let alone seen a script," he said.
"Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision... they have been like family... I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga," he continued.
Diesel promised to announce the directors of the new movies in a future Facebook post.
Furious 8 is scheduled for release on April 14, 2017.
